Course Content

Webinars (Weeks 1–8):

  • Monday 7 pm:  Live sessions run Mondays at 7 pm. Dr Ryan Paul presents on all aspects of diabetes management, with a strong focus on Type 2 diabetes. Each webinar includes time for live Q&A. All sessions are hosted online and recorded for later viewing. Live attendance is capped at 300 people

  • Thursday 1 pm: The same webinar from Monday night is repeated with Dr Ryan Paul presenting. The topic each week is different. The Thursday sessions are often attended by less people if you feel more comfortable asking questions in a smaller group.

  • You only need to attend/watch one webinar per week.

School Holiday Break (2 weeks):

  • We take a two-week break during school holidays, knowing this is often a busy time for many.

Mentoring (Weeks 9–16):

  • Monday 7 pm: Case study discussions and Q&A. You're encouraged to submit cases or questions at any point during the course.

  • Thursday 1 pm: Guest presentations from members of the wider health team—e.g., kaiāwhina, social workers, psychologists, nurses, dietitians, and others.

  • You only need to attend one session each week. Choose the one most relevant to your learning needs—or attend both!

Weekly MCQs:

  • Each week, you’ll complete two multiple choice questions based on the week’s content. These are required for course completion and your certificate.

  • We will ensure the content is covered in each session for that week’s MCQ.

  • If you choose an incorrect answer, the platform provides feedback to support your learning. You can re-sit the questions until you pass.

CME

16 hours CME endorsed by RNZCGP & College of Nurses Aotearoa.

Once you’ve completed all webinars and MCQs, you’ll receive a certificate.

  • Fellows of RNZCGP will need to provide their MCNZ number to have their CME automatically uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Will registrations be capped?
No. Everyone is welcome to register. However, only 300 participants can attend each webinar live. All sessions will be recorded for those who miss out.

Q: I registered but haven’t received any emails—what’s going on?
There was a brief glitch in our email system, but this is now resolved. Please check your spam or junk folders. You should begin receiving regular updates as we approach the course start date.

Q: What’s the difference between registering and enrolling?
Registering your interest adds you to our email list. Later, you’ll receive instructions to formally enroll in the course via Moodle, our online learning platform.

Q: When will webinar and mentoring session recordings be available?
We aim to upload recordings within a few days of the live session. These will be accessible on Moodle for the duration of the course—and we hope to make them available long-term too.

Q: Do I need to register separately for each Zoom session?
No. You’ll be sent access links via email and Moodle. Just click the link to join—no additional registration required.

Q: What if I don’t pass the multiple choice questions?
No worries—you can try again! Each incorrect response includes an explanation to guide your learning. You can repeat the quiz as many times as needed.

Q: Why is the course accredited for only 16 CME hours when there are more than 16 sessions?
You’re only required to attend/watch one live or recorded session per week during the mentoring phase. If we accredited more CME hours, we would need to make all of the mentoring sessions mandatory. However, you're welcome to attend extra sessions and record that time in your personal CPD log.

Q: Why does it say the course runs for 20 weeks when there are only 16 weeks of content?
Great question! The course includes 16 weeks of active content—8 weeks of webinars and 8 weeks of mentoring. We also take a 2-week break during the school holidays and allow at least 2 additional weeks at the end for participants to catch up on recorded content and complete their MCQs. That’s why we refer to it as a 20-week course overall.

Q: What if I can’t complete the course?
We understand that life gets busy. As long as you complete the webinars and MCQs, you’ll be eligible for your certificate. We do prioritise participants who can commit to the full course, but all content is recorded to help you catch up at your own pace.

Q: How do I withdraw from the course?

If you’ve only registered interest (not yet on Moodle), simply unsubscribe from our emails. If you’ve already enrolled on Moodle, please email us at education@aotearoadiabetescollective.org.nz to formally withdraw.

Q: I didn’t finish the course—can I still claim CME hours for the parts I completed?
Yes! You can record any sessions you attended or watched as part of your personal professional development record, even if you don’t receive a formal certificate.

Communication
We’ll begin sending more regular updates closer to the course start date. Once underway, we usually send two emails per week—reminders, resources, and FAQs. If you’re not seeing our emails, check your spam folder and mark us as a safe sender.

Resources
All course materials will be shared on Moodle and also uploaded to our website where possible. You can also subscribe to receive email alerts when new tools and resources become available.

Recordings
Recordings are typically available within a few days of the live session. They’ll remain accessible throughout the course, and we aim to keep them available long-term.

Questions?
Email education@aotearoadiabetescollective.org.nz We aim to respond to non-urgent emails within a week. Please don’t call our 0800 number—it’s reserved for patient support.
